The drawing exercises continue! At this point I've realized that there's really no point in which we'll "stop" drawing. But for now we're drawing for the sake of practice, not intended to end up as a part of a painting, etc.
I was a bit nervous about the drawing aspect of school. Not only am I untrained and needing some serious practice, but I thought that this would be a thorn in my side. I was sort of afraid that I would be really bad at it, and as a result, hate doing it. I was wrong....I love it. The other students definitely have an edge in this category, I think. But "practice makes better," as Rachel says.
Our assignment this week: pick 4 different flowers and draw each of them 3 times from different angles; then draw 2 houseplants and 3 trees. So that's 17 total...oy! But I'm really loving it. It's kind of therapeutic. I was getting stressed out and angry about my healthcare situation (more on that later), so I went out and just drew for an hour. Frustrations cured.
Oh! And we finally got to paint today! We just did a very loose beige and gray scumble for a translucency, so nothing intricate. But Joan (the resident scenic artist who paints commissions while RAchel is teahing) will be painting the back side of it so that when lit from behind, trees will magically appear! Very cool. If I can get ahold of some pictures when it's completed, I will post them up.
And one other thing... Wish me luck in my job hunt. So far nothing has come up. Pretty much everyone in the house is looking for a job, and nobody has found anything yet. I have a little bit of savings to tide me over, but it's going to get tight real quick! Keeping my fingers crossed that something will come up soon.
