Fall is Here!

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

The trees in Sullivan County are starting to turn...and I thought this place was beautiful to begin with.  It's by far my favorite time of the year, and I'm in hog heaving.

Alicia, Jen and I went for a long walk yesterday before dinner and I took my camera along.  We're not quite in the peak of color yet, but the trees are starting to shine.  Another picture-taking excursion is planned for this coming weekend, so I'll post more then as well.  Oddly enough, my best pictures so far don't show much of the tree colors...it was the bright setting sun after a long day of rain that made a recipe for great pictures.  Here are my favorites.

I think after another couple of weeks, the colors will peak and I'll get some spectacular shots (knock on wood).

I also took a few pictures on Friday in front of the Cobalt house and a friendly game of kickball.

At school, we finished up the "bamboo ballet" where we practiced drawing and painting with the charcoal/paintbrush on the end of a bamboo pole (standard practice for a scenic painter).  We each chose a cartoon...mine was Shere Kahn from Jungle Book (Winnie, the studio cat, was being ever so helpful).

Okay, so now for the non-pictoral updates:

So far no job.  Subway seems to be giving me the cold shoulder, but I applied to more than one location, so there's still hope.  I found one possibility online where I could work part time as a tutor teaching English as a second language (all online through my computer).  Sounds like a perfect fit, so I applied today.  Crossing my fingers.

My computer is annoying.  After rigorous testing, I have determined that the fault of the internet not work lies with my computer alone...everybody else's computers work just fine in my room.  Damn.  So I think the problem is my wireless card...now to track one down.  The nearest Apple store is a two hour drive South of here.  To make matters worse, my computer has recently developed a habit of crashing during startup.  I have to try turning it on at least 3 or 4 times before it successfully completes the startup.  Oy.  And (not to jinx myself) I don't have anything backed up at this point, so I hope it doesn't die completely.

And if that weren't enough, my car has also decided to join the break-down bandwagon.  Looks like I'll be replacing the catalytic converter (and who knows what else) here shortly.

So all in all, the joys of living in such a beautiful place and attending such a wonderful school are carefully balanced by the woes of technology and it's never-ending vice grip on my sanity.

Such is life.
